The mountain is primarily composed of granite and schist, giving it a rugged appearance and contributing to its unique topography. These rocks were formed under high pressure and temperature conditions, making them quite resilient.
From the summit, you can see the Kerry Head, the Dingle Peninsula, and on a clear day, you may even spot the Blasket Islands in the distance.
The name 'Garraun' is derived from the Irish 'Garrán', which means 'little grove', referring to the wooded areas found in the lower slopes.
